The Tale of the Star Sigil

Hello dear friend!

If you’ve followed me around for a bit now, you probably noticed my logo and wondered “what is it inspired by exactly?”.

Today, I wanted to take some time to share with you the story of how I came up with my star sigil logo, and why it means so much to me!

I’ll start this off by just saying first that all of my designs, illustrations and branding have been created 100% by me up to this point.  A lot of my time actually goes into creating designs for my music, including also doing my album covers:

Maybe I’m crazy to take so much on my shoulders, but I also LOVE creating designs and illustrations!

My very first logo was based-off the shape of my electric harp:

I liked it, but it didn’t resonate with me as much as I wanted it to. While the harp as a picture looked nice, I thought it was missing something: it wasn’t communicating the values and  aesthetics I wished to inspire with my music.

It missed a story.

One key element that really unites the music that I do is the theme of fantasy.  I’m inspired by mythology and magic. I imagine telling tales of elves, sirens, fairies, and dragons. I’m the musical equivalent of Lord of the Rings books,  but with metal influences.

So I started looking for images to inspire me, and I stumbled across the theme of Witchcraft. That’s when things started to really click for me.

In fact, I realized that I had the answer in front of me all along: The witchcraft aesthetic was the perfect blend of magic and mythology I was looking for, I just couldn’t put a word on it before!

Through my research I came across “Sigils“, symbols used in magic since the middle ages, usually representing a desired outcome

In the middle ages, they were used in ceremonial magic and the term Sigils was commonly used to refer to occult signs. Along with runes, they were used for magic purposes in lots of different cultures, starting with Norse mythology and Wicca.

What if I created my own Sigil?

I started drawing some ideas of images I thought could represent my music, taking inspiration from symbols used in various magic practices. I drew stars, moons and various other symbols I felt really spoke to me and the themes that I like to use in my music.

If there is one thing I would like my music to do, it is to inspire creativity and to support the belief that if you put in the work, you can make your dreams come true.

Through this process, I ended up creating a unique design inspired by the the shape of a star (as a symbol for wishes and dreams) using the fantasy aesthetics of Witchcraft.

"Dreams Come True"

…This is what it needed to be about…

So this is the story of how I created my logo. I wanted something that resonated with the aesthetics and the values I wanted for my music, and ended up creating a symbol that reminds me to never give up on my dreams.

I hope this long story was Interesting and inspiring to you! I’ve created a ton of designs in the past, both for myself and others, but I think this is so far the one I love the most.

Thanks for taking the time to read this! If it resonated with you in some way and you’d like to share some thoughts, I invite you to leave a comment over here. I’d love to know if you like the look of the Star Sigil, and if it meaning is something that speaks to you as well!

See you & take care!
